If you ever find a fluid leaking from the forward part of your car you should have a technician take a better leak. Your car uses a number of fluids to operate its various systems and it needs proper amounts of them. Oil leaks, coolant leaks and others can all be detrimental to the engine if not taken care of.
A decrease in fuel efficiency can be caused by a number of issues. It is important that you take your car to a shop to find out just what is wrong. Generally a quick tune up will restore your car's MPGs.

An increase in exhaust smoke, particularly colored smoke, generally indicates some sort of trouble inside the motor. Blue smoke usually means that oil is being burnt up inside the motor. White smoke is an indicate of an interior coolant leak and black smoke means that too much gasoline is being burned up, which can result in a number of issues.
A knocking noise arising from the hood of the vehicle often indicates worn out engine bearings. These bearings are what the moving parts of the motor rest on and they will wear out due to high mileage or poor lubrication. If they aren't serviced if could lead to engine seizure.
